Pacific Cycling Centre Head Coach Houshang Amiri and athlete Erinne Willock attended the Women in Sport Celebration Gala on Saturday at the Victoria Conference Centre’s Crystal Gardens.

The evening celebrated the past, present and future athletic accomplishments of girls and women in Victoria. Victoria has a history of female athletes through school teams, local sports organizations, National Team members and Olympians and Paralympians. Erinne Willock is one of Victoria’s most successful cyclists and she represented Canada at the Beijing Olympics. She attended the event as a guest of Houshang Amiri and with her husband, former National Cycling Centre member Tony Zarsadias.

The evening featured a slide show of Victoria athletes — including Willock — with an appearance by the Canadian Women’s Hockey Team, who are playing Team USA tonight in Victoria as a prelude to the 2010 Winter Olympics.
