“Shortly after I resumed to training I became exposed to Houshang's coaching style. It was evident that he cared for each of his athletes.”

The fall and winter off-season training program will start at the Pacific Cycling Centre in Victoria, BC in November and run through to February 2010. Open to all level of athletes, the program will consist of dryland training and group training rides.

The twice-weekly gym sessions will focus on dynamic strength and core stability which will help athletes to develop strength, flexibility and balance. Two group training rides per week aim to develop and improve endurance and aerobic capability. “During the rides we work on cycling technique, while each athlete will be observed and given feedback,” says Head Coach Houshang Amiri. “We also have regular training camps planned throughout the season targeted at specific goals and objectives, and these will be open to all level of athletes. This will prepare our athletes for the demanding cycling season.”

Over the fall and winter months the program will build on all of the qualities the cyclists need for the 2010 season. Each athlete in the program undergoes a thorough medical examination and physical testing and profiling, explains Amiri. “Based on those results we develop a personalized training program for each athlete.” Amiri personally supervises and coaches these sessions.

“Each athlete benefits from the group training sessions and they become a great motivator, building camaraderie between them. Our approach is to apply a system and program that is measurable and developed on individual needs. Our track record in the past has shown how we have developed athletes to reach their best potential.”
