Good result for Svein Tuft at the Sun Tour

Pacific Cycling Centre’s Svein Tuft had a strong finish to the 2009 pro-cycling season with his team Garmin-Slipstream at the Jayco Herald Sun Tour in Australia last weekend.

Tuft had some consistent finishes during the seven-day tour, notably placing second on Stage 5 and sixth on Stage 2. His overall placing of fourth, with team mates Bradley Wiggins and Chris Sutton achieving first and second, helped his team win the team classification.

Having had injury problems during the season, he wasn’t sure how we would ride. “I went there with pretty low expectations and surprised myself,” he said. “I worked everyday for the team, controlling the race and doing lead-outs and still found myself in a good GC position. The race was pretty hard with the relentless windy conditions, but the team was strong and we definitely made our mark.”

The Sun Tour made a great impression on him. “The Aussie crowds were great and really into the racing so that made for a good time. It was a great way to end the season.”
