Pacific Cycling Centre athletes Devon Smibert and Brian Cowie have been selected to represent Canada at the 2009 Track World Championships to be held in Manchester, U.K. from November 6-8.
The Paralympians will be one of two tandem teams that Canada is sending to compete. Both are optimistic about their competition. “As far as we know, there will only be two tandem teams at the World Championships that have gone faster than Brian and I. We are both fitter than we were this time last year, so a spot on the podium may be a realistic expectation,” says Smibert.
To optimize their preparation for competition the team will do some pre-race training at a camp in Newport, South Wales from October 26 — November 3. The athletes will be accompanied by a full support team consisting of a coach, mechanic, physiotherapist, doctor and a team manager.
