Max Plaxton (Team Sho-Air/Specialized) took second place at the Canadian National Mountain Bike Championships this year, finishing only 48 seconds behind leader Geoff Kabush.

The Nationals took place in Canmore, Alberta on July 17 at the Nordic Centre. Riders completed a 7 km course loop that included portions used in previous mountain bike World Cups and featured new technical sections with very indicative names such as Eye Dropper, Mad Handler and Laundry Chutes.

“Right now Max is one of the best young athletes out there,” said Pacific Cycling Centre Head Coach Houshang Amiri. “He did not race to his full potential in Canmore due to a crash a few days before, and we had back off on the training and preparation somewhat.”

The Nationals helped prepare athletes for the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships coming up this September in Mont Sainte-Anne, Québec.
