PCC athlete Erinne Willock came second in the final GC of the Redlands Classic last weekend. This comes just a week after finishing fifth at San Dimas.
Cycling for Team TIBCO, Willock was strong throughout the stage race, which consisted of an ITT, Criterium and a 109km road race. “I’m super happy with my fitness to date. I finished third in the Redlands TT and had two top five results in the stages,” said Willock. In the ITT Willock rode the 6k in 11:25, putting her 0:13 behind former World Time Trial Champion Amber Neben, and just 0:05 behind Neben’s HTC-Highroad teammate Evelyn Stevens, the current U.S. Time Trial Champion.
Finishing second in the final GC was very satisfying. “Finishing second to Amber Neben and ahead of Evelyn Stevens of HTC was good. HTC is the number one team in the world and Amber Neben is a former World Champion and still at the top of her game so it was a hard battle. Redlands is one of the biggest stage races in North America and we were really happy to have such a great start to the season and I think we’ll be able to improve from this momentum. Team TIBCO did a great job of supporting me all week and it was great to have Carmen Small also on the podium in the final stage on Sunday.”
Next stop for Willock is Europe. “Stayed tuned — I’m racing the Drenthe World Cup and the Fleche Wallone World Cup.”
