Pacific Cycling Centre athletes produced some impressive performances at the Canadian National Road Championships last weekend, including a third place for Erinne Willock in the elite women’s race.

The 103 kilometre race on the outskirts of Burlington, Ontario, consisted of eight laps with some challenging climbs including a steep finishing climb up the Niagara Escarpment. Willock’s strength is hills and each of her climbs challenged the pelaton. The lead pack wasn’t decided until the last climb when Veronique Fortin sprinted to the finish. Willock was just pipped to second place by Lex Albrecht. Nik Vogler, competing in her first nationals, came seventh.

In the elite men’s race Rob Britton came 4th. He led most of the climbs during the race but had eventual winner Svein Tuft on his wheel for the last couple of laps. Tuft then broke away with his two SpiderTech team mates for a 1-2-3 finish. Spencer Smitheman came 4th in the U23 men’s race.
