“Shortly after I resumed to training I became exposed to Houshang's coaching style. It was evident that he cared for each of his athletes.”

The Pacific Cycling Centre congratulates Ryder Hesjedal on his historic victory in the Giro d’Italia. The Victoria native made up the 31 second deficit yesterday in the time trial to wear the pink jersey.

“Congratulations to Ryder – I am very happy to see him make history and win the Giro,” said Ryder’s former coach Houshang Amiri. “This victory didn’t happen overnight; he has always worked hard and been able to focus year after year. When we were training he never moved to the next step without completing the first step first, and he never missed any step in between. He understood the process and the time required to get to the top.”

The time trial yesterday saw Svein Tuft place ninth – a good result for the Canadian National Champion. “It was good to see two Canadians in the top 10 in the final stage of the Giro,” said Amiri.
