Max Plaxton wins MTB Nationals

Max Plaxton won his second elite MTB National title last weekend. The six-lap, 30 km race was held in St Félicien, Quebec.

PCC cyclist Plaxton and Geoff Kabush, seven-time MTB champion were clear 1-2 podium contenders from the start, riding neck-and-neck for four laps. An attack by Kabush followed by one from Plaxton secured the placings with Plaxton winning in 1:32:48.

He told Canadian Cyclist: “Last year was special, winning my first elite title but this one shows that I'm really the top rider in Canada now, possibly in North America. This gives me a lot of confidence going into the next couple of World Cups, and I think a podium is possible.”

“It is great to see Max riding close to his potential, and also to see that the top podium finishes in the elite men and women are from BC,” said Houshang Amiri, Head Coach of the Pacific Cycling Centre. “Max was a prodigy of the U23 development program in BC, but we no longer have a program in BC for nurturing juniors and U23, which is a sad state of affairs for the future of BC cycling.”
