Pacific Cycling Centre’s Annie Ewart competed in the Nature Valley Grand Prix, in St Paul, Minnesota last weekend. In her first year on the pro-circuit she placed a credible 52nd in the final GC. Her team, Optum Pro Cycling p/b Kelly Benefit Strategies, won the yellow jersey.

The Victoria cyclist achieved some great results in the six-stage race. In the first stage – a 12.39k time trial she was 13th. This was followed by a 38th placing in the criterium. Stage 3 was cancelled, so stage 4 was another criterium where she placed 14th. The road race proved a challenge with Ewart getting a flat but she still managed a 60th placing.

“Nature Valley was a great race. We defended the yellow jersey from start to finish, which was really cool,” she said. “It was a big race for the team as it is our hometown, so to come away with the overall GC and overall team was awesome. It was my first time at the race, and I really enjoyed it. I flatted on the road stage right before the last QOM, which consequently lost me my GC place, but we kept yellow and that was really all that mattered.”
