Max Plaxton lived up to his Olympic selection last weekend by achieving his first World Cup podium – a fifth place at the Mont Ste Anne World Cup. He was also the top North American.

Plaxton was in the top ten for the six-lap, 30.75 km race, moving up to seventh and then fifth in the final lap. He told Canadian Cyclist: “This is probably the best result of my career. I've won the national title two times, but this is a race against all the top pros, so it is very special to me.”

He is now 18th in the rankings and the top North American. The next World Cup race is this weekend: June 30 – July 1, in Windham, Vermont in the US.
