Pacific Cycling Centre athlete, David Strasser, riding for Russ Hays/Accent Inns, claimed his first Overall Victory of the season at the Dove Creek Omnium held in Comox this past weekend. The three stage race include a 16km rolling ITT, the Royston Criterium, and an 85km Road Race.
Strasser started the weekend strong placing second in the ITT, thirty seconds ahead of his General Classification rivals. In spite of an untimely mechanical in the final five laps of the Royston Criterium, Strasser managed to hang on for a 5th place finish, leaving him in second place overall heading into the final day of racing.
The hotly contested and lively Dove Creek Road Race came down to a late two-man breakaway in the final 10km, with Strasser and Cycling BC's Geordie Morrison opening up a gap on the field to finish first and second on the day, moving Strasser into first overall and solidifying his Omnium win.
Strasser will now turn his focus towards preparing for the B.C. Provincial ITT Championships being held on August 12 in Aldergrove.
