Victoria Welcomes Ryder Hesjedal

Ryder Hesjedal was given a hero’s welcome in Victoria on Friday, as the city celebrated a homecoming for the Giro d’Italia winner.  Hundreds attended the celebration which started with a parade through downtown Victoria.

The celebration continued with speeches and a presentation in Centennial Square. MLA Ida Chong and Mayor Dean Fortin were in attendance, as was Seamus McGrath, Ryder’s cycling partner and Leonard Hesjedal, Ryder’s father.

During the celebration a cheque presentation was made to assist up and coming Canadian cyclists in their training.  The $1,000 cheque was jointly funded from Ryders Cycling Society of Canada and Russ Hays Bikes. Two athletes will benefit from the presentation, one of which is Pacific Cycling Centre athlete Annie Ewart.

Ryder was interviewed by emcee Mira Laurence, which was then followed by a Q & A session and autograph signing.
