Young riders will benefit from two bursaries recently announced by PISE (Pacific Institute for Sport Excellence) and the Great Victoria Velodrome Association (GVVA).

Two $500 Chris Considine Bursaries will be awarded at TrackFest 2 on the weekend of August 22-24 to recognize the recent track cycling accomplishments of two young GVVA track cycling athletes (one male and one female). Trackfest II is a Commonwealth Games Legacy event. These bursaries are coming from an endowment set up by Chris Considine, a Victoria lawyer who actively supports many charities and academic and sport scholarships for young people.

Athletes wishing to apply for these bursaries have to meet this criteria:

1)     Member of the GVVA during the 2012 and 2013 track cycling seasons.

2)     Under 23 years of age during the 2012 and 2013 track cycling seasons.

3)     Success at BC Provincial and/or National track cycling championships in 2012 and 2013.

Interested applicants should submit a written letter of application to the GVVA via e-mail on or before June 30, 2014 to larry.a.reynolds@gmail.com. The letter of application should include the applicant’s name, contact information, and outline how they meet the bursary criteria. With respect to Criteria #3 applicants are encouraged to include their track cycling race record for the 2012 and 2013 track cycling seasons. Applications will be considered by a GVVA panel and successful applicants must be in attendance at TrackFest 2 to receive their bursary.

“I would like to thank PISE and the GVVA for this initiative to support our upcoming riders. I am sure this support will go a long way,” says PCC Head Coach, Houshang Amiri.
