PCC riders Chris Macleod, James Grant and Mark Grant, were out last weekend for the first race of the season – the Escape Velocity Spring Series River Road RR on Saturday, March 7 and Escape Velocity Spring Series Wix Brown RR on Sunday, March 8.

There was a full field of 50 riders for both days in the B Category (Cat 3). Saturday's race was 90kms around a 6.5 km loop. There were a few breakaways during the race but nothing happened until three laps to go. The lone rider was caught with 500 metres to go right before a truck and trailer pulled out into the road. The whole field had to stop and it was a standing start sprint for the final 300 meters. James Grant took 3rd place, with Chris Macleod and Mark Grant finishing in the top 10.

Sunday's race was just under 100kms around a 6km course. It was a high-paced race but no breakaways until the final lap when James attacked with two other riders. With 500 metres to go they had a 150 metre gap, but the other riders wouldn't pull, so they were caught with 200 metres to go. Fellow PCC rider Chris Macleod attacked with 50 metres to go and no one could catch him. James kicked again to finish 2nd place, with Mark finishing in the top 15

“This was a great performance and season opener for all three riders,” said Head Coach, Houshang Amiri. “I am pleased with how they raced and the power data from the race will help to tune their training targets for March and April.”
