(Victoria, BC – May 14, 2012) The Pacific Cycling Centre, Victoria, BC will be offering a new high performance track program, starting Wednesday May 16 at the Juan de Fuca Velodrome. The program is open to all cyclists who want to improve their track cycling skills, and aim to compete in provincial and national championships.
The program will run every Wednesday from 9 am – 12 noon, with the sessions consisting of improving techniques, speed workouts and motor pacing. The sessions will be on a road bike or a TT bike. Cyclists can drop in for $10 or pay an annual membership fee to use the velodrome. The annual fee is 130 for adults over 19, and $180 if they want to store their bikes. Track bike rental is $10. Former Olympic and National Coach Houshang Amiri will be taking the sessions. He has a wealth of experience spanning 30 years in road, mountain bike, track, triathlon, Xterra and cyclocross coaching. He established a track program in Victoria in 1999 and in 2006 was the Track National Team Coach. He coached Erinne Willock, Svein Tuff, Max Plaxton to Road Worlds, and Commonwealth Games finishes in 2010, and coached Devon Smibert /Brain Cowie to achieve a third place finish at the UCI Paralympics Track World Championships in 2009. He coaches 2011 Junior National Champion Annie Ewart, who is now competing on the pro circuit. He established the Pacific Cycling Centre in Victoria and gives online and one-to-one coaching to athletes at all levels of their cycling career. www.pacificcyclingcentre.ca
The Greater Victoria Velodrome Association (GVVA) facilitates track riding and racing at the Juan de Fuca Velodrome just outside of Victoria in Colwood. In addition to the Wednesday high performance track program there are public events Monday and Friday evenings.The velodrome is located behind the Juan de Fuca Recreation Centre,
