“Shortly after I resumed to training I became exposed to Houshang's coaching style. It was evident that he cared for each of his athletes.”

Colin Fowlow on the podium

The Robert Cameron Law Cycling series wrapped up yesterday in Victoria with Pacific Cycling Centre coached athletes having some notable performances over the three days. Seven athletes competed on four different teams, each riding with their teammates. “Two PCC athletes competed in U19 races in cat 1-2 and it was very encouraging to see how capable they handled the challenge of elite level racing,” said PCC Head Coach, Houshang Amiri.

Colin Fowlow was outstanding in the Dallas Road Time Trial on Friday evening, winning cat 3. “He moved from Newfoundland at the end of last summer and joined the Pacific Cycling Centre program. He is in his first year as U23 and he has a bright future in cycling,” said Amiri.

“Friday evening’s conditions were ideal for the time trial - lose to breathless and yet just enough breeze to discern a useful tailwind in the homestretch,” said Fowlow. “I followed an especially long warm-up routine - a magic procedure acquired directly from Houshang due to the briefness of the course. I forgot to apply sunscreen, but the nasty shoulder burn was nothing compared to the hellish 6:59.7 of leg hammering!”

Callie Swan and Holly Simonson also had good TT performances coming 4th and 5th overall in cat 1-2. Chris MacLeod had a good road race on Saturday and on Sunday in the criterium, placing 5th and 6th respectively. Alex Amiri was seventh in the road race and had a very good ride in the criterium. He broke away early from the pack and rode a tactical race supporting his team mate, Connor Toppings, who won the race.

Two of the U23 PCC riders will be competing with their respective teams at the GP Saguenay from June 8 – 11. This will be followed by the Grand Prix Cycliste de Beauce from June 14-18 and then the Canadian Road National Championships in Ottawa from June 25-28. “All PCC coached riders will be performing at the Nationals,” added Amiri, who will be accompanying his athletes.
