Canadian Cycling is Number One!

Three out of the four members of the team relay who won Gold at the Mountain Bike Worlds are PacificSport National Cycling Centre members: Geoff Kabush, Max Plaxton and Kiara Bisaro.

Canada kicked off the 2004 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships in Les Gets, FRA in grand style today by winning the Team Relay event. This marks the third time in the last four years that Canada has won gold in this event. Canada won gold in at the 2001 World Championships in Vail, USA and at the 2002 World Championships in Kaprun, AUT and took home bronze at the World Championships last year in Lugano, SUI.

The team of Geoff Kabush (Victoria, BC), Kiara Bisaro (Courtenay, BC), Max Plaxton (Victoria, BC) and Raphael Gagne (Quebec, QC) finished in front of the teams from Switzerland and Poland.

National Team Coach Yury Kashirin commented on the day's events:

"Today was a great day for the team. Everyone played a huge part in winning the gold medal. It was a very close race and we were fortunate to come out ahead. The team is on top of the world today. This is great for the program and goes a long way towards showing the depth of talent that is present in our system."

The Mountain Bike World Championships continue this week with events for Junior, Under 23 and Elite Men and Women in the Cross Country, Downhill and 4-Cross disciplines.
