Houshang Amiri conducts Olympic Solidarity Cycling Course

(Victoria, BC — April 27, 2011) Pacific Cycling Centre Head Coach, Houshang Amiri, recently returned from St. Vincent and the Grenadines, where he conducted a 10-day Level 2 Technical Cycling Course. The course, which ran from April 4 — 14, was part of the National Olympic Committee’s Continuing Olympic Education Program. It was sponsored by Olympic Solidarity, which is the development arm of the International Olympic Committee.

The course, which was described by the participants as informative and intensive, focused on the modern training systems, energy systems, technical and tactical demand of cycling, training principles, fundamental requirements, goals and objectives, the disciplines of cycling, training intensity and the periods and phases of yearly training plan.

The last day of the course was set aside for a two hour examination which Amiri conducted. It was attended by 17 cyclists/coaches, including one St. Lucian and a Grenadian. Amiri, speaking at the closing ceremony after the examination, said that the crop of coaches worked hard during the course.

Vice President of the National Olympic Committee, Wayne Williams, who was also a participant, was high in praise of Amiri’s knowledge and delivery throughout the course. The other speakers at the closing ceremony were President of the SVG Cycling Union, Trevor Bailey, who is also the President of the NOC, and Director of Physical Education and Sports, Nelson Hillocks.

Apart from Williams, the coaches others who were beneficiaries of the course were Justin Douglas, Peter Durrant, Shane Cole, Frederick Forbes, Mavic Bailey, Shimano Bailey, Kadmiel Peters, Deelon Lynch, Cheryl Evans, Uriel Peters, Deptor Culzac, Kevin Ross, Cammie Adams, Sydney Walters and Carro Cordice.
