Elite Cyclists Join Pacific Cycling Centre November Camp

(Victoria, BC — October 31, 2011) Pacific Cycling Centre’s first winter training camp of the 2011-2012 season will have four elite athletes riding with the camp participants. Svein Tuft, Max Plaxton, Annie Ewart and Erinne Willock will join other national team members, master’s athletes and PCC cyclists in the five-day camp from November 2 — 6, in Victoria, BC.

Led by Master Coach Houshang Amiri, the training camp will focus on identifying training targets and build towards goals for the season. Training will cover building base aerobic and endurance, techniques, core stability/endurance, flexibility and balance. There will be five group rides aiming to develop or improve base endurance and boost aerobic capacity.

“The camp provides the best opportunity for young athletes to train with the professionals and National team athletes, and to learn valuable skills from them,” says Amiri. “Everyone is relaxed and concentrates on training, improving, and being the best they can. It is a great team environment”

Tuft is a seven-time National Time Trial Champion. He won the National Road Race in 2011 and the UCI America Tour in the 2006-2007 season. Plaxton recently won a silver medal in the mountain bike race at the Pan-Am Games — he also is the 2011 Canadian MTB National Champion and USA ProXCT Champion. Ewart won the Time Trial and the Road Race at the Junior National Road Championships. One of cycling’s great future champions, she will be competing on the senior circuit in 2012. Willock has just come off a great year, winning the Women’s Prestige Cycling Series in the USA and the Bastion Square Grand Prix in Victoria. All of the elites trained at PCC under Amiri’s coaching.

Subsequent training camps will be held from December 7-11, 2011; January 11-15, 2012; February 12-26, 2012, and March 19-24, 2012.
