PCC Cyclists named to Road World's Team

September 15, 2009

Pacific Cycling Centre athletes have been chosen to represent Canada at the 2009 UCI Road World Championship road race and ITT in Mendrisio, Switzerland, from September 23 — 27.

Svein Tuft, who is the Canadian National Time Trial Champion, will compete in the ITT and the road race. He came seventh in the ITT at the Beijing Olympics. Ryder Hesjedal, who made Canadian history recently by winning a stage in the Vuelta a España (Tour of Spain), will also compete in the road race. An experienced road racer, Hesjedal rode in the Tour de France in July for the second consecutive year.

Erinne Willock was named to the women’s team and will compete in the road race. Having come off some good performances in the Tour de Ardeche, she is feeling confident. “The Tour de Ardeche was a great preparation for the Road World Championships. It's a very hard course but I feel good and I hope myself and Team Canada can have a good day.”
