The Commonwealth Games women’s road race was held Sunday in New Delhi with 58 riders competing in the 112-km event. Pacific Cycling Centre athlete Erinne Willock finished 13th after a strong but frustrating ride.

Willock was a medal contender throughout the race, taking the lead after the sixth lap and 20 kilometres remaining. The main pack of 39 riders were all together on this fast, flat course with the lead riders very close together. With one kilometre to go, the lead motorcyclist ahead of them slowed down and impeded some of the lead riders around a corner barricade. A mass sprint ensued for the finish with Willock not able to recover from the motorcycle incident. “I had an opportunity for the podium and went for it,” she later said, “but the motorcycle stalled our progress." Finishing 13th, she was the third fastest Canadian.
