Former swimmer, triathlete and cyclist Hilary Wille has joined the Pacific Cycling Centre’s coaching team as a personal trainer. As a BCRPA Certified Trainer she will lead PCC’s weekly strength and conditioning, dynamic gym sessions.

Hilary has been a competitive athlete since she was seven when she started to swim with the Island Swimming Club in Victoria. Competing in many national and provincial races she was an Olympic Trial Qualifier in the 200m butterfly in 2008.

She transitioned into triathlon in 2009 at the age of 16 and competed as a junior elite with The Canadian National Triathlon Centre for four years. She won her first race, the provincials in North Shore by five minutes in 2009, and that year went on to take the title at the Junior Elite Kelowna Pushor Mitchell Apple Triathlon.

In 2011 she competed in the Western Canada Summer Games, winning three gold medals – one in the individual triathlon; and two the team relay. After a crash in 2012 in Edmonton to try and qualify for the triathlon worlds, and with a history of shin splints, she decided to switch to cycling.

“It was this crash where I had ordered a new bike frame that PCC Head Coach Houshang Amiri was fitting me that introduced me to the cycling world. I had a love for the bike since I started triathlon and it became my favourite discipline. So when I was offered an opportunity in the world of cycling it was no question I was making the switch,” she says.

In 2013 she joined the Russ Hays-Accent Inns Cycling Team. She became a strong cyclist, competitive and very fast and qualified for the Canada Summer Games in first spot. However, the following year, she retired from competitive sport to pursue a career in personal training.

“I find her very motivated to work with athletes and she understands the strength needs of cyclists and triathletes. She has a lot of experience as an athlete and personal trainer and she will be an asset to have her in our coaching team, “says Amiri.
