The fourth race in the Escape Velocity Spring Series took place on Saturday - the Bradner Long Road Race in Aldergrove, BC. Many BC based teams were present including several PCC coached riders who traveled from Victoria.

The weather was perfect for the race which consisted of 10 laps of a 12km/loop totaling 126km (including a neutral start), with a total elevation gain of 1,450m.

Off the gun there were a number of attacks, and around 6km of the first lap a five-man group including Alex Amiri from the Glotman•Simpson Race Team surged ahead. Within one lap the gap for the group of five went up to 1:45. After one more lap the gap had doubled to three minutes, hovering around three and a half minutes until one lap to go, when the gap was reduced to about one minute.  Three riders then broke away including Alex where he took the win in a three-man sprint while the chasing group was closing in behind them.

“This was a good and hard race for me with the first win of the year. After finishing second last week I knew I wanted more,” said Alex Amiri.  “I was the only one from my team in the cat 1/2 race, so when I got away with four others I was confident we were going to stay ahead, as we road hard and efficiently in the break for 120km, trying to maintain around a three minute gap for most of the race. It worked out in the end.”

Next on the schedule for the PCC program is an advanced track skill training camp at the Burnaby velodrome, followed by a Bare Bones track race from March 22 to 25. After the track camp and racing they will travel back to Victoria for a road volume camp from March 26-30.  This will bring PCC riders from Saskatchewan and BC together in final preparation for U17 and U19 Canadian track Nationals in Milton Ontario from April 13-15.
