Alex Amiri (centre) won the U19 BC Premier Track Cup

Pacific Cycling Centre coached athletes dominated the BC Provincial Track Championships last weekend in the Men’s Sprint and U19 endurance Omnium. The championships took place at the Burnaby Velodrome from September 12-14. The event was well run with two officials and a number of volunteers who manually timed the event.

The championship consisted of team events (Team Pursuit and Team Sprint) as well as the Omnium. The event had a new format: 1) scratch race, 2) individual pursuit, 3) 1000m TT, 4) elimination race, 5) flying lap, and 6) point race. There was also a new Championship Sprint Omnium combination of track sprint events, where the winner of each event earns points and the rider with the highest number of points at the end wins the Omnium. The events in this year sprint Omnium were: 1) 200m TT, 2) match sprints, 3) keirin, 4) Kilo TT, and 5) elimination race.

In the Elite Men category the Provincial Championship Sprint Omnium was won by Evan Carey, winning all five segment of the Omnium and becoming the BC Premier Track Cup Elite Men’s Sprint leader. James Graham was in 4th place.

In the Elite Women, category 3 / 4 Alexandra Grant won the Provincial Championship Endurance Omnium and the BC Premier Track Cup leader Jersey, with Katie Chater taking 3rd place.

The U19 Men Provincial Championship Endurance Omnium was won by Alex Amiri. He won three of six segments of the Omnium and took the BC Premier Track Cup for U19 men and track endurance leader jersey. Alex was also part of the winning team for the team pursuit (a mixed team of U19 with Trevor Stothard, Jackson Pickell and U17 John Wilcox.)

In the U17 Men Eloi Batista was second in the Endurance and Sprint Omnium

There were no entries for U19 women at the BC Championships this year, but there were two riders granted an upgrade from U17. Rachel Carey finished second in the Provincial Championship Sprint Omnium and took the BC Premier Track Cup U17 Women Sprint leader jersey.

In the U17 Women Jessica Reynolds took 3rd place in the Provincial Championship Endurance Omnium. Rachel Carey and Jessica Reynolds won the team Sprint.

Chris MacLeod, in his first year with PCC as an U19 endurance rider and who finished on the podium during the TrackFest 2 in Victoria, suffered a crash day before the Provincial Championships and fractured his wrist so he had to withdraw from the event. We wish him a speedy recovery.
