Melanie McQuaid wins Xterra World Championships

PacificSport's Melanie McQuaid won the Xterra World Championship in Maui, Hawaii today.

McQuaid, a PacificSport cyclist and triathlete who has competed on the Xterra Series for a few years and who took silver at the Worlds two years ago, beat out the Xterra Series winner in the event Jamie Whitmore, best described as an off-road triathlon. Fourth out of the water, McQuaid came off the bike with five minutes ahead of the rest of the field, and was first to the finish line.

"The race was magic, and it is a testament to some awesome coaching by Houshang Amiri as for the first time I got my peak right and just stomped a mudhole today," McQuaid said. "A big thanks to my best bud and training partner Chrissy Redden."
